Let's start with the genome. The genome is like a cookbook, which contains all the recipes that are needed in the body.
The individual recipes are the genes, each gene has the information needed for something specific.
As with normal recipes, variations on these recipes exist. Some variations ask for more salt or less salt, but the end result is generally comparable. These different versions of the same recipe are called alleles
