atoms are said to be electrically neutral because in an atom there are same number of protons & electrons.

protons have the unit positive charge viz.+1.60210^-19 C.
electrons have the unit negative charge viz.-1.602
10^-19.
since in an neutral atom there are same number of electrons & protons,hence atoms are electrically neutral.
