What is neuropathy?

In conventional medical usage , the word neuropathy means peripheral neuropathy. Neuropathy means damage to nerves or diseases affecting the nerves.

Explanation:

Neuropathy may affect just one nerve, or multiple nerves in roughly the same or different areas on both sides of the body.

Peripheral neuropathy may be acute or chronic.

It affects the nerves which may impair sensation, movement, gland or organ function or other aspects of health, depending upon the type of nerve affected.
Peripheral neuropathy may be genetic or idiopathic I.e. no cause known.

It may cause painful cramps, fasciculations, muscle loss, bone degeneration, changes in skin , hair and nails. It may cause impaired balance and co ordination, or muscle weakness. Often common symptoms are poor bladder control , abnormal heart rate and blood pressure.
