What is temporal lobe atrophy?
As neurons die in the temporal regions of the brain, these lobes atrophy or shrink. This is called temporal lobe atrophy.
The temporal lobes , located below and to the sides of each frontal lobe on the right and left sides of the brain contain essential areas for memory and play a major role in language and emotions.
They help people understand words , speak read , write and connect words with their meanings.
They allow people to recognise objects and events.
When temporal lobes are dysfunctional , people may have difficulty recognising emotions and responding appropriately to them.
