The cardiac aorta is a form of an artery.

Generally, veins and arteries differ in their direction of flow. Veins contain oxygen depleted blood whereas arteries contain oxygen rich blood.

The cardiac aorta is the largest of all arteries. The aorta begins a the top of the heart's left ventricle, the heart's pumping chamber. Blood is pumped through the left ventricle through the aortic valve and into the aorta where it is after distributed throughout the body.
