Disappearing is often spoke about when talking about a character in a novel being ignored, as it is like they are not even there.
It could also mean that someone has lost track of who they are so it’s like they have disappeared as they aren’t much of a human.
Finally, if someone has lost something/someone, then it is as if it has disappeared to them as it seems to be nowhere at all.
