# What is the correct order of alpha, beta, and gamma radiation in terms of their increasing ability to penetrate into matter?

Such radiation is penetrating in the order $\alpha$, $\beta$, and $\gamma$................
$\alpha - \text{particles}$ are essentially helium ions, and these are MASSIVE, and are POORLY penetrating.
$\beta - \text{radiation}$ are fast moving electrons, and these are slightly more penetrating with respect to $\alpha \text{-particles}$.
And $\gamma - \text{radiation}$ are faster moving particles, on the photonic scale. And these are the most penetrating particles. They require lead shielding of several mm for safe containment. And of course the order of penetration also follows the Greek alphabet.
