The equillibrium maintained by an organism

Explanation:

Homeostasis is the process that organisms undergo to keep conditions for them ideal. As long as homeostasis is going well, the organism will continue living, but if it doesn't, its life ceases.

There's a lot of stimuli that can mess with organisms. For example- you know how when it gets really cold out so you start shivering? That's your body trying to maintain homeostasis- its making itself move to warm itself up to keep conditions regulated. The same is true when it's super hot so you start sweating, because the sweat is trying to cool you down.
