Any sort of mining can cause loss of soil as to actually get to the diamonds, mining companies displace tons of dirt and earth from the ground since they have to dig quite deep to find diamonds. Heavy rains can cause these mines to fill up and collapse, and chemical spills and leaks can damage the environment and spill into surrounding areas like lakes.
