What is the formula of cuprous iodide? I have read Cu I and Cu2Cl2 both. Please remove the confusion.

Well, doesn't it have to contain #"I"# atom? So it couldn't possibly be #"Cu"_2"Cl"_2#.

Cuprous indicates the lower oxidation state, so we have #"CuI"#, and not #"CuI"_2#.

  • #"CuI"# = cuprous iodide
  • #"CuI"_2# = cupric iodide
