Cell wall is a structural layer situated outside the cell membrane. Cell walls are present in plants , fungi and prokaryotic cells.

Explanation:

Major function of cell wall is to prevent over expansion of the cell, when water enters the cell. It provide strength and structure to the cell.

Cell walls in some plant tissues also function as storage depots. They may store carbohydrates that can be broken down and reabsorbed to supply the metabolic and growth needs of the plant.

The cell wall is essential to the survival of certain bacteria as it offers protection against some lytic enzymes of host cells.

The outer part of plant cell wall of epidermis is usually coated with cutin and wax. The cell walls of cork are impregnated with suberin. These provide a permeability barrier.
