we have a small data set, but the methods are still the same

#1) we find the median, the middle number

#6,7,8,9#

there is no middle number as such, so the median is the mean of the middle two

median #=(7+8)/2=7.5#

2) the quartiles

The lower quartile is the middle of the lower half of the data

#color(blue)(6,7),8,9#

#Q_1=(6+7)/2=6.5#

similarly the upper quartile is the middle of the upper half of the set

#Q_3=(8+9)/2=8.5#

#3) the interquartile range

#IQR=Q_3-Q_1=8.5-6.5=2#
