What is the name of the area between the epiglottis and the tongue?

The epiglottic vallecula.


Just behind the root of the tongue and between the fold of the throat is a small depression called the epiglottic vallecula. that temporarily holds saliva before it is swallowed.

This so that the saliva doesn't constantly initiate the swallowing reflex.
