Mercury is the only metal that is liquid at R.T.

Explanation:

Mercury has a melting point of -39°C and a boiling point of 357°C, which makes it liquid at room temperature (around 20°C).

For this very reason mercury (#Hg#) was long time used in temperature meters, because it will expand with higher temperature (but stays liquid).

Nowadays we have discovered that #Hg# is harmful to us. Our bodies cannot get rid of it and will, therefore, accumulate in our bodies. It has a negative effect on neurones

Because of this liquid characteristic, you will find most of the #Hg# pictures with mercury displayed as a liquid!
