The large (5 feet) is intestine is shorter than small intestine (21 feet) and it has no digestive function. Its main function is absorption of water and electrolytes.

Other functions include formation and temporary storage of feces;
Production of mucus, which lubricates feces;
Synthesis of vitamin K by bacterial flora.
