# What is the propane gas chemical formula?

$\text{Propane is}$ ${C}_{3} {H}_{8}$.
OR, if we draw out the hydrocarbyl chain, we get ${H}_{3} C - C {H}_{2} - C {H}_{3}$.
And of course propane is an alkane, i.e. ${C}_{n} {H}_{2 n + 2}$. Would you expect propane to be more volatile than methane, $C {H}_{4}$; what about butane, ${C}_{4} {H}_{10}$ Why or why not?
