What is the purpose of mean value theorem?

It has been used for issuing speeding tickets on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. If your average speed from entering to exiting the turnpike was 70 mph, then at some point your speed was 70 mph.

It is used in mathematics to prove other useful theorems. These include several that beginning students erroneously think do not require proof, several more advanced theorems,and,
the big one: the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus is proved using the Mean Value Theorem.
