At the end of the bronchiole are tiny branches called Alveolar Ducts which end in clusters of sacs called Alveoli.

The Alveoli are surrounded by capillaries. The walls of the Alveoli and the walls of the capillaries are each one cell thick, providing a contact surface for the efficient exchange of Oxygen #O_2# and Carbon Dioxide #CO_2#.
