Plate Tectonics

Explanation:

The theory of plate tectonics postulates that the earth's crust is formed of multiple sections of crusts that are semi attached to the moving mantle beneath the crust. These sections of crust called plates are carried along with the mantle underneath by convection currents in the mantle.

These sections of crust can be immensely large like the European/Asian plate. When the theory of plate tectonics was first proposed under the title of Continental Drift it was rejected partly because it seemed inconceivable that anything could move so large and massive a segment of the earth.

Today the evidence for plate tectonics is solidly established and widely accepted.
