Explanation:

By definition, we have a solution that is #40%# #v/v#.

That is #"Volume of alcohol"/"Volume of solution"xx100%=40%#.

And #620*mLxx40%=248*mL#.

Note that I have not assumed what the alcohol is, and what the solvent is - we have assumed also (fairly reasonably) that the volumes are additive.
