What kind of variation is #xy=c#?

#color(blue)(x)=c/color(blue)(y#

Here, #color(blue)(x and y# are variables and #c# is the constant.

Let us assume the constant #c# to be 10 and assign values to #color (blue)(y# and observe the trend in values of #color(blue)(x#

  • #c = 10# , let #color(blue)(y = 2#
    Then #x = c/y = 10/2, color(blue)(x = 5#

  • #c = 10# , let #color(blue)(y=5#
    Then #x = c/y = 10/5 , color(blue)( x = 2#

As we can observe , when the value of #y# increases the value of #x# decreases. Hence the variation here is inverse variation .
