What limiting factors affect human population?

Traditionally the main factors were: starvation/malnutrition, wars/persecution, and plagues/diseases.

More recently, other factors that have helped to limit human population include: access to better health care, access and education regarding family planning and contraceptives, woman being given the right to control their own reproduction, education for women more broadly and being able to set up their own businesses, and families moving from rural to urban settings. Large families are an advantage in rural farming areas, but not so much in urban areas.
