To achieve peace with the spirits of their ancestors, animals, plants, rivers, mountains, and the creator spirit.

Explanation:

Most traditional African Religions are animistic. The people worship to and through the spirits of their ancestors. The people worship through their ancestors in order to achieve peace with and in their world.

The spirit world is often more real to the people than the physical world. What we think of as witch doctors, are herbal doctors who contact the spirits of ancestors, and other spirits to bring peace and healing. The counseling of the shamans is perhaps more effective than Western Freudian counseling.

The ultimate goal of the animistic traditional religions is to bring the worshipper into peace when the worshipper becomes an ancestor with the ancestors who have gone before and with the creator spirits.
