In IV therapies , peripheral veins or the veins situated away from the chest and abdomen are often the first option as injection sites.


The cephalic , basilica and median cubical veins in the hand and forearm are the most often used for initiating intravenous therapy. This is because they are easier to puncture and less likely to rupture than the other veins in the hand and arms are.
