Nativist groups were people who set out to prevent immigration. Their movement was targeted towards others groups that may change the way of the already-established American culture. In other words, they favored native-born Americans and did not appreciate new cultures and traditions immigrating to the United States.

Explanation:

An example of nativist efforts would be the Philadelphia Bible Riots. In 1844, nativist mobs attacked groups of other religions and nations, predominantly Catholics. These attacks became known as the Philadelphia Bible Riots, and they were stopped by the militia when they got bloody and serious.

Another example would be the Know Nothing Party. This political party was created with preventing immigration as one of it's goals.
