Operation Sea Lion was Nazi Germany's cancelled invasion of the United Kingdom during World War II.

Explanation:

Operation Sea Lion ended in failure because of Hitler's overconfidence and underestimation of Britain's strength. He believed he could invade and take control of Britain after his swift victory in France by launching an attack from the French coasts. Since Britain was a French ally, British troops suffered a heavy loss while fighting for France. Attempting to take advantage of Britain's current weakness and unorganized troops, Hitler immediately made plans to launch an attack on the island nation of Britain. Although it should have begun in July of 1940, Operation Sea Lion was postponed, mainly because some of the German officers thought it was a joke. Whether it is seen as failed, postponed, or cancelled, it is still debated whether this operation would have succeeded or not.
