The 1990 elections in Myanmar were held in on May 27. These were the first multi-party elections in Myanmar since 1960. Since 1960 the country had been ruled by a military dictatorship.

The purpose of the elections were not to form a parliamentary government, but instead to form a parliament-sized constitutional committee to draft a new constitution.

When the votes we counted Aung San Suu Kyi's from the National League for Democracy (NLD) had easily won by taking 392 of the 492 seats.

However, the military junta refused to recognize the results of the election. They military continued to rule the country as the State Peace and Development Council until 2011.

Voter turnout for the 1990 election was 72.6%.
