What were the effects of legal segregation?

It led to separation and discrimination


Segregation meant white people and black people had to attend different public spaces(sidewalks, churches, schools) and they had to use different water fountains, entrances and waiting rooms. Blacks had to sit in the back of buses.

Blacks had less rights than Whites, they are often deprived of the right to vote, they had less opportunities in the workplace. Segregation was enforced in the former Confederate states and was known as the Jim Crow laws.
