What were the effects of the Korean war?

...difficult one!

Explanation:

The main effects (in my opinion, mind you!) were:

1) to cause the death of hundred of thousand of people and the destruction of the structure(s) of a nation (although this is characteristic of all wars and not only of the Korean War!);

2) to make North Korea (NK) dependent from China; this dependence became more and more decisive towards the second part of the war when Chinese troops actively fought to repel UN coalition troops from North Korea. This intervention, initially of military implications only, became more political binding NK more and more to China.

3) as consequence of point 2, to create a secluded, brutal and dynastic Stalinist state in the north and a capitalistic (allegedly free and democratic...) one in the south, raising an economical, political and mental barrier between the two nations;

4) to create a state of permanent belligerence between the two Koreas. The war basically didn't end in 1953 but was only suspended (a kind of armed truce!). This situation made the boundary between the two Koreas (38th parallel) one of the most dangerous places in the World.
