Lymphatic system plays an important role in draining out the Tissue fluid or what we call it ECF ( extra cellular fluid ).

If lymphatic system becomes non functional , then there will be continuos accumulation of tissue fluid but no one will drain it out which will lead to swelling of body parts.

This is the case of Filariasis or Elephantiasis when the worm wuchereria bancrofti accumulates in the lymph nodes of legs and blocks it , leading to swelling and the legs appers as if it was elephants leg.
