They partly separate.

Explanation:

If you take a highly positively charged to the neighbourhood of a neutral object, the electrons in that object tend to move toward the side facing the positive charge. This means that at the side facing away from the charge there will be an electron deficit, which means that side will be positively charged.
The object - that was originally non-charged - now has a positive and a negative 'pole'.
