Meiosis takes place in the formation of germ cell.

Meiosis is a type of cell division in which no of chromosomes reduce to half and parent cell divides into four daughter cells. This type of division takes place in gametogenesis and in the reproductive organ of the organism.
Meiosis is divided mainly in two phases; Meiosis I and Meiosis II. In Meiosis I crossing over of genetic material takes place and Meiosis II is just like mitosis.
