The most direct sunlight for solar power hits Earth at the equator.

Wherever it is day on Earth, there will be sun, however, the angle of the sun varies. The sun's light hits Earth at an angle due to the curving of the Earth, this curving causes the sunlight hitting the surface to be less direct. The sunlight hits the equator, the midline of the Earth, most directly creating the most direct solar energy.
