As you can see here, the oxygen has a slight negative charge on one end, and the hydrogen atoms have a positive charge on the other end. This is because the oxygen atom pulls the electrons from the hydrogen towards its own nucleus, and therefore the hydrogen atoms do not get an equal sharing of the electrons, thus making the molecule polar.
