- Primart oocyte matures into secondary oocyte inside ovarian follicle of ovary.
- Secondary oocyte is deposited at the mouth of oviducal funnel during ovulation.
- Secondary oocyte matures into true haploid gamete in fallopian tube, only after sperm entry.

Primary oocyte undergoes meiosis 1 to become secondary oocyte. A polar body is also generated due to unequal cytoplasmic division.

Secondary oocyte can become an ovum only when it completes meiosis 2. The amazing fact is meiosis 2 is completed after the sperm nucleus enters egg cytoplasm, i.e. only after fertilisation. A second polar body is formed at the end of meiosis 2.

After this, the sperm nucleus fuses with mature egg nucleus and a zygote is established.
