Where is the tricuspid valve located? What is its purpose?
The tricuspid valve is located between the right atrium and the right ventricle and it prevents the back flow of blood.
The tricuspid valve is located between the right atrium and the right ventricle, as shown in the digram below.
During atrial systole, the deoxygenated blood in the right atrium is pushed into the right ventricle due to contractions that raise the pressure. The tricuspid valve prevents blood from flowing backwards into the atrium. This is because it closes once the pressure in the ventricle is greater than that in the atrium.
