Which organelle is responsible for hemoglobin production?

1 Answer

The ribosome!

Explanation:

Hemoglobin is a protein. Ribosomes are structures found in the cytoplasm of cells that build proteins.

The information needed to build hemoglobin is stored in the form of a gene (DNA).

DNA is found in the nucleus of eukaryotic cells. So how can ribosomes which aren't in the nucleus use the information stored in the nucleus to build a protein?

The answer is that you need a middle man, which turns out to be a molecule called mRNA.

The DNA in the nucleus is used to make a mRNA molecule which can carry the genetic information from the nucleus to the ribosomes in the cytoplasm where proteins are made!

#DNA -> RNA -># protein

Here is a video which gives more explanation about how this all happens.

Hope this helps!
