Cell cycle is divided in interphase and M phase. Cell division (mitosis) takes place during M phase and this will take almost same time in all cells. Duration of interphase varies.
Explanation:
Cell cycle has interphase and cell division phase. Interphase has three periods: G1 - gap 1, S - synthesis and G2 - gap 2.
During interphase cell may prepare for next division or may enter a quiescent phase. Thus interphase could be prolonged in many cells, e.g. in cells of liver; but it is not so in cells of epithelial tissues.
Once a cell decides to enter M-phase, and the preparations are done, cell division would take place quickly.
