The immune system

Explanation:

The immune system is a group of barriers and protective mechanisms, that collectively protect the body from pathogens. Generally, it is split into the two groups:

  1. The innate immune system - Which includes barriers such as the skin, mucous membranes, acid sinks (such as your stomach which produces acid to sterilize food) and phagocytes (which are cells that simply eat pathogens without selection)
  2. The acquired immune system - Which involves complex mechanisms that produce an immune response to specific pathogens.
