The Office of the United States Trade Representative was created in the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 when Congress called upon the President (John F. Kennedy) to create and office where some one can represent the U.S. in trade negotiations. Kennedy then created the office and put in 2 deputies to be stationed. One in Geneva, Switzerland and the other is Washington D.C. Our current Trade Representative is Robert Lighthizer.
