Explanation:
Why are most solids more dense than liquids: This reason is because most solid are denser than liquid is because of the crystalline structure which is packed together giving it only space to most time vibrate..
So take a coins (solid) for example which is more dense than water therefore making it to sink..
.....why is water an exception to this: Well water is an exception despite being a liquid, but not all solids..
This follows the principle of flotation the same thing that makes ice (which is a solid) floats because it's less dense..
Water is an exception due to de anomalous behaviour of water..
