Why are mycorrhizae important to plants?

1 Answer

Mycorrhizae is an association between the root of higher plants and fungi.

The roots of higher plants form an association with the mycelia of
fungi. This association is called as 'Mycorrhizal Association'. The association between the two partners is smbiotic. In this symbiotic association both the fungal and higher plants are benefitted from each other. The plants provide food materials formed by the process of photosysnthesis to the fungal partners, while the fungal partners provide different types of minerals absorbed from the remotest places.
