Why can comets approach the Sun from any direction but asteroids generally orbit close to the plane of the elliptic?

The asteroids are part of solar system and formed from a disk of gas and dust..So they are in same plane.

Explanation:

The comets comes from distant part of solar system called Oort's cloud which is not flat like asteroid belt but spherical in shape.enter image source here
