Why did gregor mendel use garden peas in his studies?

Gregor Mendel used garden peas because there were many traits that were true-breeding dominant and true-breeding recessive.


In addition garden peas do not take up a lot of area. As an added bonus they are easy to control pollination in(he simply tied bags around the flowers after he pollinated them with a small brush, try doing that with mice).
