To consolidate his control over the German people.

Explanation:

Hitler very quickly established a totalitarian regime where all normal civil liberties were abolished and every aspect of daily life was controlled by the Nazi state.

He believed that for The Third Reich to be sustained into the future control over Germany's youth was critical. Therefore other youth organisations were banned and membership of the Hitler Youth was virtually compulsory.

It reached a stage where each year all German children of a certain age, for example 10 were given to the Fuhrer as a present, emphasising their loyalty and obedience not only to the Third Reich but to Hitler personally.

At the end of the war when the Hitler Youth saw front line fighting as Germany was attacked from both East and West they engaged in some of the most fanatical fighting, such was the impact of Nazi propaganda on them..
