He was the first person to fly solo and nonstop from America to Europe.

Explanation:

Prior to Lindberg's feat, to get to Europe, planes flew from the east coast to Gander, Greenland, then to various points in Ireland and then to England.

Lindberg's feat only proved that it could be done, it still took years of aircraft improvement before it could both be done regularly and safely.
