The second law of thermodynamics
Explanation:
Stars are highly structured features of the universe. The second law says that everything goes from order to disorder. The law of entropy implies that stars are basically unstable structures. When a star goes nova it explodes. It explodes because it is unstable.
The star produces energy using nuclear fusion to maintain homeostasis . When there is a change in the stars ability to produce nuclear fusion it loses its stability leading to an explosion.
The laws of entropy determine that eventually all stars and even all matter will cease to exist and only low level kinetic energy of heat will be left in the universe.
