The moon is is a non-luminous object and shines because of the light reflected from the sun. The phrases of the moon as seen from the Earth is the result of the angle moon has with relation to the Sun.

The night in which the whole 50% of the moon's surface is lit by the sun is known as the full moon night. the night in which only half of the moon can be seen ifs known as the half moon night. The night in which only a quarter of the moon is visible is known as the crescent moon night and the night in which no moon can be seen is known as no moon night.
