Methyl group act as a electron donating group due to positive inductive effect..

Explanation:

So we can say Due to +I effect it easily loose electrons to carbon along the chain of carbon atoms .
Moreover the electron negativity value of carbon is low, so methyl can easily act as electron donating group.
