Why is cell division important for multicellular organisms?

1 Answer

For growth, healing of wounds and reproduction.

Explanation:

In multicellular organisms cells are divided for the following purposes.

  1. Growth-The meristematic tissues of multicellular plants divide through out of life for growth in length and thickness, while in annimals cells cease the capacity of division from particular age defined for that organisms.
  2. Healing of Wounds- In both, plants and animals cells divide to heal the wounds. It is an occassional event.
  3. Reproduction-Sex cells of both plants and animals divide meiotically during the reproductive age.
